The aims and objectives of MDA are far reaching both in their short term and long term planning. The MDA plans to reduce population congestion is primary objective. A plan to have restricted individuals per hectare has been proposed. With the purpose of limiting the population of Union Territory of Delhi and maintaing a steady pace of development, national capital region has been conceptualized with parts of Haryana, Rajasthan and U.P. with Delhi being at the centre.
U.P. subregion (1,08,532 sq.km.) includes Meerut, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahar and makes up about 3.68 % of the total U.P. region.
Under National capital region planning board, Meerut has been selected as main satellite city.To meet the additional requirments of housing and curb pollution, it is important that MDA plans ahead. For the same reason MDA has acquired substancial acres of land till date. Schemes have been finalized and some have already been executed. Keeping in mind the economic strata of the society ; lower, middle and upper income group houses have been planned. Development of plots as well as construction of commercial centres, Hotels, parks, theatres, offices, amusement stalls, schools, colleges, hospitals are being especially included in the schemes.
MDA is also looking after the needs of the villages which fall next to old and new colonies. Arrangements of water, electricity and roads are being made with all possible speed. Beautification of the old city, lighting and transportation have been MDA’s serious concern. MDA has also provided UPSIDC, Indian oil corp. and other organizations with land, keeping in mind the industrial requirments of the region. Traditional trade pockets engaged in the production of the scissors, sports goods and handloom are distributed almost all over the interiors of the city. To organize them MDA is developing a sports good complex, Hathkargha nagar and Kainchi nagar. Organize and systmatic development is the aim. PAC has been provided with land in handloom nagar for security reasons, and a police training college is also being established, CRPF has been provided with land in the vedvyas puri to provide security for people living in that locality.
From the inception of MDA till 1994, Pallavpuram, Pandav Nagar, Shradha puri, Raksha puram , Ganga Nagar, Vedvyas puri, Shatabdi nagar, Lohia nagar, Sports Goods complex, Begum Bagh etc, have already been developed with housing facilities for various income group people lower, middle and higher income groups. Adequate arrangements for all required infrastructure have been made in all these schemes. Public facilities like primary schools, Nursing homes, Police stations, Telephone Exchanges, Colleges have also been arranged for.
